Cremation

What do you need to think about when organising a ceremony that will be followed or preceded by a cremation ?

Organising a funeral : what does A&G Funeral do?

Our first step is to arrange a meeting with your family to finalise the funeral arrangements. During this meeting, we will discuss aspects such as the date, place, time, rites and personalisation of the tribute, taking into account any specific arrangements you wish to put in place. We adapt to your family’s needs and guide you in creating a soothing and memorable ceremony for all your loved ones.

As experienced professionals, we take care of all the administrative and logistical arrangements, including:

  • Notification of death to the local authority in the place of death.
  • Order the death certificate.
  • Booking the ceremony venue, religious representatives, celebrant, musicians, etc.
  • Handling formalities relating to cremation.
  • Coordination of legal procedures for the possible transfer of an urn abroad.
  • Funeral care and preparation for committal.
  • Preparing the coffin: contrary to popular belief, a coffin is essential and compulsory for cremation, as wood plays a role in the combustion process.
  • Organising and reserving the funeral vehicle and personnel required.
  • Welcoming and assisting your family during visits and the funeral.
  • Coordinating and briefing the various service providers, such as the master of ceremonies, musicians, caterers, etc.
  • Issue certificates of attendance at the funeral.
  • Managing orders for floral arrangements.
  • Production of printed matter.
  • Ordering and proofreading draft obituaries.
  • Follow-up on messages of condolence, and many other essential aspects to ensure complete and personalised support at this difficult time.

Provisions specific to cremation

Cremation in Belgium involves a number of choices:

  • Choosing a coffin
  • Choosing a crematorium
  • Choosing a ceremony around the coffin or urn
  • The choice between an urn, reliquaries, commemorative jewellery, mini urns: the crematorium will give us the ashes and the identification stone in a technical cinerary urn, which is sufficient if scattering is planned, but less suitable for storage at home.
  • Choosing a place of storage: in Belgium, it is perfectly acceptable to store the urn at home.
  • Choosing a place of burial and a monument: it is possible to bury an urn in a colombarium, a cemetery, a family vault, etc.
  • The choice of a place and method for scattering the ashes : in the ground, during a walk with a walking stick, at sea, in a forest of remembrance, abroad, etc.
