OUR HISTORY
The story of Van Gossum's Funeral Home began with a challenge.
In September 1927, Joseph Van Gossum, an exceptional carpenter and cabinetmaker, decided to establish his own company. With courage, a knack for dialogue, and sound advice, he succeeded in giving impetus to his small enterprise.
In 1932, he established its headquarters in Place Fernand Cocq.
A few years later, his son Pierre, who held a diploma in commercial studies, joined him, marking the dawn of a new era.
The company became a public limited company in 1955. While adopting the most modern technologies, it preserved the tradition of dialogue, kindness, and assistance to families.
In 1965, the grandson, Paul Van Gossum, joined the history of this family business, whose renown spread throughout the country.
Subsequently, Samy Roosens joined the team and became Paul's right-hand man.
Since 2020, the company has joined forces with A&G FUNERAL GROUP to ensure the continuity of its services and benefit from the advantages of its agency network, which brings together over 150 years of history and trust with families.
We are a funeral home.
This means that we handle all the procedures and formalities to ease the burden on families during this particularly difficult time.
You can reach out to us at any time of the day or night, including weekends and public holidays.
Upon receiving the news of a death, we dispatch a specialized team to handle the preparation of the deceased.
We then meet with the family to arrange the funeral organization.
Our role is to listen to everyone's wishes regarding burial or cremation, as well as religious and civil procedures that need to be followed.
Our establishment takes care of providing the coffin and hearse, as well as the necessary paperwork with the local administration, the purchase of the burial plot, determining the day and time of the funeral, creating funeral notices, and liaising with newspapers for publishing obituaries.
We can also arrange the transfer of the body to a mortuary from a clinic or hospital. We attend to every detail.
Van Gossum's Funeral Home also handles repatriation of remains to foreign countries, ensuring compliance with all necessary procedures: contacting the Embassy and the Ministry of Public Health, booking flights, establishing contact with the destination country and city, as well as local colleagues and the cemetery where the deceased will rest.
Our seriousness and reputation have led us to organize numerous nationally significant funerals.
"The Belgian Court entrusted us with organizing the funerals of H.M. Queen Elisabeth in 1965, H.R.H. Prince Charles and H.M. King Leopold III in 1983, H.M. King Baudouin in 1993, and H.M. Queen Fabiola in 2014."
"We have also organized funerals for personalities from the political, scientific, and sports worlds."
In all circumstances, the tradition of attentive listening, dialogue, assistance, and efficiency is upheld every time.
